Nicholas Goergen is an experimental artist born and raised in Arizona; where he currently practices. His work speaks to concepts such as information, the past, language and family. His visual style flickers between stimuli and rest with calm, simple images, and abstract sensory overload experiences. Working primarily in video, he also produces digital prints and mixed media works.
He graduated with a BFA in Intermedia Art in 2016 at Arizona State University and continued to work with the university community closely after graduating. He is also experienced as a teaching assistant, having worked along side mentor/artist/professor Muriel Magenta as a teaching and personal assistant since 2015.
The culmination of his undergrad work "Autopoesis" was shown at Gallery 100 (Tempe, Arizona) in 2016. His documentary centered around his mothers experience as a queer woman, titled "Tammy" has been screened at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) three times upon invitation (2015,2017,2019). In 2020 his work was featured in in the online exhibition "Plague and Locusts" hosted by Ephemereye, which would go on to be broadcast in Marin county California in 2021. His 6 hour video work "sum1" was screened every night from 7pm to 1am at Found:re contemporary as a part of their Minimalism vs. Maximalism show in early 2022.
