Blink and You'll Miss It (2022) Site Specific Sound Installation On the corner of University and Myrtle, in Tempe, AZ, a building allocated "Tower A" experiences it's last days. In 2022, guests were invited to partake in an interactive sound-art installation. Aiming to immortalize the space through memory, participants explore the exterior of the building while carrying an urn that captures and processes sound through the use of a Bela board, which then returns to the participant through the headphones. |
It's a Screenshot (2022) Digital Print What you see is a 16th generation screenshot. An offshoot. A marginalized image. A lie. A mirage for the digital age. A castle made of pixels. A farce of visual proportions. Miles and miles of colors processed by six characters. An abbreviation. A knock-off. The generic version of an original thought. A wig made of plastic fibers that stick you in the eye every time you move. A scam. An ad for a product that may or may not exist. A glitch. A certified error ready to be patched. An example of too many cooks in the kitchen. A book left out in the rain more than once. A journal written by a child that hasn't learned to spell yet. A keyboard score set to the wrong instrument. A byproduct. A regrettable outcome. A movie script transcribed from another language with only mild success. A nephew that hasn't learned to cover his mouth when he sneezes. A square peg cramming itself into a star shaped slot. A plastic cup lacking the heft of it's glass counterpart. A second draft of the intended product. An under construction theory. A song that you cannot understand any of the words. A cake made entirely of frosting. An accident. |
4now (In Reference to the Sun Part IV)(2021) Video In this final chapter of the "In Reference to the Sun" series, ethereal visuals shift away from representational form as an amalgamation of the sound from the three previous chapters discordantly plays, mirroring a tendency to reflect upon the events of a day at the end of it. |
2Anyone (In Reference to the Sun Part II)(2020)
Video This next entry of the In Reference to the Sun series, focuses on information and communication. The availability of information (and misinformation along with it) has increased ten-fold in the last 30 year, and we now find ourselves in the age of over-informed and misinformed peoples. Through over exposure to information that is traumatic in nature we are seeing a rise in anxiety based mental disorders, tied to the over-stimulus of media as a whole. We also see a lack of accountability in the information available online, leading to false information being circulated which can serve as a contributor to social discourse. This piece is a study in what happens when information is woven into itself and layered until it's message becomes distorted, unclear and ethereal. |
Sum1 (In Reference to the Sun Part I)(2020) Video In 2020 much of the world was put in a position to re-evaluate how they spend their days. In this real-time series, I propose that the mind follows phases similar to that of the sky throughout the day; shifting between stimulus and rest. Sum1 is a 6 hour video which is the first chapter of a 24 hour long series entitled "In Reference to the Sun". Sum1 is Representative of the time between 12:00 am and 6:00 am while the sky and mind are experiencing deep rest before gradually shifting to stimulus. The images of this section are ethereal and obscure. |
Lost in the Airwaves(2020)
Video In this piece I explored the parallels between traditional storytelling and modern data transfer. In every retelling/transfer you lose a bit, or something changes. When things are passed around enough we loose things to time and the airwaves. The things that we see are the 1,957th iteration of something we had to see with out own eyes to truly experience. |
Honey, I'm Home(2020) Video In this piece I explore the archetype of the housewife while simultaneously referencing the death of the classic nuclear family format. As this traditional family format adapts to the modern age, so too does the role of the housewife. This is exemplified as a male subject steps around the kitchen while preparing a meal in high heels. As time progresses the image slowly shift and contorts until the image takes on a completely abstract form. |

People Cocoon (2015)
Fabric, clothing and yarn. Metamorphosis is a concept that fascinates people, myself included. I wanted to explore this self reflective process in the form of a performance. Over the course of an hour, I sewed myself into this cocoon and after some time I shed my clothing and emerged, signaling the end of the performance . The cocoon was kept and presented as the remnant you see here. |
